Development Case Study
Design and product development are often overlooked in development projects yet they are crucial elements to ensure success. Many small business development professionals stress accessing markets, which is also important. Accessing markets with tired or inappropriate products yields weak results.
Design and product development should take into consideration locally available raw materials, local skill-sets, costing and pricing issues, and indigenous cultural aesthetics. I like to do product design in collaboration with master artisans, building product lines together, and encouraging their creativity. This instills a sense of ownership and pride for the designs.
I have also done virtual mentoring with local designers.
Follow the development of a specific production process and product development, with results.
