Rana Al Shaer is a talented young Jordanian designer who I mentored virtually. The progress was phenomenal while expenses were minimal.
She worked with a number of women's groups. Above she is with a group of deaf women training them in a number of new techniques and designs we worked on together.
As traditional embroidery is complex we created simpler designs, taking less time and materials and yielding greater profit margins.
Bedouin Colllection, based on traditional Bedouin aesthetics
Amazingly all these collections (and others not shown) were done in just a few months!
The women at the deaf school had sewing skills, but no idea of what would sell. At right, some of their products.
One of the first bags. Through virtual mentoring we were able to arrive at the products on the right.
Capitalizing on their embroidery skills we developed designs for tourist & international markets with an up-beat contemporary sensibility while retaining a Jordanian flavor.
The purple thistle collection is based on a common Jordanian plant.
Contact sheets for 2 of the four virtually designed collections, achieved in just 2 months. Each collection consisted of table top items, pillows, and five bag styles.
